Radio Chón is a collection of original Chicano Music.
A sonic adventure.
Tune In.

Radio Chon by Los OtrosLos Lobos vocalist and guitarist Cesar Rosas has produced Radio Chón, which is Los Otros' debut recording. Like many great rock bands, Los Otros' original material takes inspiration from their own roots music -- in this case traditional cumbias, Mexican and Cuban sones, and North American blues and folk music. On Radio Chón, their debut CD, Los Otros take these traditions into new territory in search of an original sound that is unique and true to its roots.

The title track, about the bands' dream of starring on a pirate radio station, beckons listeners into Los Otros' musical universe. The journey starts out safe enough; with a beautiful rendition of an ancient jarocho song, El Pajaro Cu, but quickly bends into a wicked rave in 6/8 time with distorted vocals and a stunning falsetto (Weska Yeska). From that point on Los Otros have taken command of your stereo and deliver a set of well crafted songs with shining vocals, memorable melodies and dramatic production.

"A very cool and soulful album. Great writing, singing and playing...", says blues guitarist Bonnie Raitt.

"Not since Los Lobos' Just Another Band from East L.A. has a Chicano band stirred up such a delicious folkloric fusion....this debut CD by Los Otros is barrio gold." SF Bay Guardian, 1999.
