Welcome to the new Chicano Groove -- an emerging scene in U.S. popular music. Chicano Groove is the musical extension of the new energy emanating from Generation Mex's Aztlán barrio. Son del Barrio Music, the only artist-driven recording label specializing in Chicano Groove, brings to you this fusion of Latin roots music with barrio rhythms; the most compelling bilingual, bicultural new sound in American popular culture.

Para La Gente, Grito Serpentino
A self proclaimed, "NeoChicano performance ensemble," the four piece group from San Jose, CA remains at the cutting edge of the much hyped spoken word movement which has garnered substantial media attention as of late and whose audience continues to grow each day. Pioneers in this new literary arts movement, Grito Serpentino continues to be a defining force in the genre with each new work they produce. Mixing politics and social commentary with spoken word prose which ranges in style from hip hop rhymes to Spanish sonnets and modern free verse, the group has found a winning formula in a highly captivating performance style that is critically astute enough to simultaneously entertain while raising consciousness.

Musicians Jose Maria Arroyo (guitar), Mikey Chacon (bass) and Charles Castillo (drums, vocals) were able to showcase the musicality of the band without overpowering the poetry. Their latest album features newer spoken word pieces by Pinate as well as older material not included in the first album. Most noticeable, is the evolution of Pinate's writing style apparent in his newer work. A shift in subject matter and thematic emphasis away from the angry rhetoric of a young Chicano just coming into his own reveals more introspective, tender voice searching for a clearer understanding the human condition and the suffering we cause ourselves.
